Since 2018, the Dr. L.C. Carter Foundation has focused its attention in the principal area of education through STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) programs -- specifically in the Aviation and Aerospace industries. One of our goals is to introduce aviation as a viable career choice to more women and individuals in communities of color. By 2026, the industry expects to experience a significant talent shortage caused by a large wave of retirements as many pilots, and other aerospace specialties reach the mandatory retirement age.

In addition, the expense attached to the educational and licensing requirements limits the number of qualified individuals in the pipeline to fill the void. This combination of events is guaranteed to leave an industry shortage of over 800-thousand qualified individuals needed to maintain the industry for the next 20 years.
